YACHT SURVEYORS IN CUMBRIA, NORTH ENGLAND AND SOUTH WEST SCOTLAND

MCA Coding
Small vessels operating commercially under the British Flag or in British waters must comply with the Merchant Shipping Regulations  or an MCA Code of Practice. The MCA Small Commercial vessel Code of Practice applies to all boats under 24 metres in length that are in commercial use, carrying cargo and/or up to 12 passengers.

Nicholas George Associates is authorised by the YDSA to carry out the required surveys and stability assessments under the Small Commercial Vessel and Pilot Boat Code of Practice.  We will inspect the vessel initially to discover what is required, and offer you detailed advice on what is needed to comply with regulations. We will then make a second inspection, after any necessary work has been carried out, before authorising certification. Should you wish to discuss the procedure prior to commitment  then please do not hesitate to contact us either by telephone or by e-mail and we will do our best to assist. If your vessel is already coded with the YDSA we can also carry out the annual, mid term and renewal inspections as and when required. If your vessel is coded by a party other than the YDSA we will be unable to attend but it is a very simple matter to transfer to the YDSA and probably financially beneficial.

Part 1 British Ship Registry
This has nothing to do, and is far removed from, the Small Ships Register or SSR. It is usually a finance company requirement prior to issuing a marine mortgage. More importantly though is its benefit to the long distance cruising sailor, an important document that will be need to be produced in many foreign ports. Call us and we will talk you through the procedure and provide you with all the required documentation, it really is quite simple. We do the survey, the YDSA does the paper work, you pay and the Government issues the certificate in their own good time.
