Commercial vessel coding:
Small vessels operating commercially under the British Flag or in British waters are required to comply with either the Merchant Shipping Regulations or the Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) Code of Practice. The MCA Small Commercial Vessel Code of Practice applies to all boats under 24 metres in length that are in commercial use, carrying cargo and/or up to 12 passengers.
On behalf of the MCA we are authorised to carry out the required surveys and stability assessments under the relevant code of practice. The procedure is relatively straightforward and the certification documentation should be with you a short time after a satisfactory survey report.
Should you wish to discuss coding your vessel prior to commitment then please do not hesitate to contact us either by telephone or by e-
If your vessel is already coded with Mecal we can also carry out the annual, mid term and renewal inspections as and when required. If your vessel is coded by a party other than Mecal we will be unable to attend, however, it is a very simple matter to transfer to Mecal and, in most cases, financially beneficial.
Damage and valuation surveys:

International Marine Constructor's Association (IMCA):
