Part 1 British Ship Registry

Surveys are undertaken for vessels of glass reinforced plastic (GRP), Timber, Steel, Aluminium and composite constructions plus professionally built Ferro cement hulls. Full Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurances are carried and our surveyor is a member of both the Royal Institution of Naval Architects and Mecal.

Pre-purchase (full condition) Surveys: To ensure that the vessel is structurally sound in every respect, that the machinery, spars and rigging, electrical and service systems, instrumentation and safety equipment are all in a satisfactory condition and that the vessel is in acceptable cosmetic order. If the vessel is afloat a lift out will be required, normally at purchaser’s expense, to examine the underwater sections, stern gear, hull/keel joint etc..

Insurance Surveys:  Required to satisfy the Insurance Company that: (a) the vessel is an acceptable risk and (b) that the insured value is realistic.  These surveys may well be conducted with the vessel afloat, the insurers will, however, periodically require the vessel to be lifted clear of the water for examination of the underwater shell  and the stern gear. We will provide, upon request, an e-mail detailing the minimum requirements set by insurance companies that will assist in preparing your vessel for such a survey.

Damage and valuation surveys: For owners, finance houses, marine loss adjusters and insurance companies.

Part 1 British Ship Registry:  This has nothing to do with, and is far removed from, the Small Ships Register or SSR.  Part 1 Registry is usually required by finance companies prior to the issuance of a marine mortgage. More importantly it is a prerequisite for the long distance cruising sailor, an important document that will need to be produced in many foreign ports. Call us and we will talk you through the procedure and provide you with all the required documentation, it really is quite simple. We do the tonnage measurement survey, Mecal does the paper work, you pay and the Government issues the certificate in their own good time!
